Time-restricted Peach Boy Quest and Peach Fan Collection Mission

(Above are some depictions of the popular folk hero, Momotaro or Peach Boy)

(Above, Peach Boy Decoration Reward and Japanese Garden Decoration from current Sale on Harvest Moon FDC Farm)

A new 11 day Quest has been released at the same time as the new Thanksgiving Farm Beauty Contest.  The Thanksgiving Base, which can be purchased for 3000 Coins in the Market, is tied to the traditional Peach Boy Quest as you will receive one of the materials required to build it by completing the first eight steps of this Quest.

As usual, there is a Collections Mission in conjunction with the traditional quest sequence of 16 parts. Access to the Island is required to complete the second half of the Peach Boy Quest.

At the end of  Peach Boy 8, you will receive a Peach Boy Decoration for your original Seaside Farm. At the end of Peach Boy 16, you will receive a Peach Boy's Ship Decoration for your Island Farm.

A separate post has been published that deals in depth with the Thanksgiving Farm Beauty Contest.

With the Thanksgiving Base is a little Quest called Harvest Time that is designed to introduce the Thanksgiving Base.

If you like my site and find it useful, please consider casting your Farm Beauty Contest Votes either for Harvest Moon FDC Farm or Rosewood Farm.  These are my two farms and your Votes can make all the difference between success or failure in terms of being able to obtain the Decoration Reward and Avatar Reward.  My avatar for Harvest Moon FDC is a hawk (actually peregrine falcon) in a tree against a blue sky.  My avatar for Rosewood is a golden sword.

I have a Facebook group as well with wonderful members who are active players and always welcome new Neighbours.  It is Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk.  All are welcome to join.

Harvest Moon FDC Farm is AVLIMXC.  Rosewood is FBPUBUU.  I hate to delete neighbours but do have some inactive ones that do not appear to have any interest in returning to the game.  So add me if you like as a Neighbour!

Reward: Millet Bush

The Millet Bush is a Collectable which means it will not be available in the Market during this Quest.
As the traditional quest requires that you place the Millet Bush as early as Peach Boy 6, it may be best to focus first on completing the Collections Mission.  Otherwise, you will be obliged to pay 10 RC to skip the task of placing it if you wish to move forward in the Quest at that point.

Early Strategies for Mission
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There is no 7need to rush to complete the Peach Boy Quest sequence as you do have 11 days, but if you are an impatient individual (as I am sometimes), there are ways to expedite certain tasks.  For example, Peach Boy 1 asks that you harvest 40 Clovers.  If you have more than one Beehive, do not harvest the Clover until it has been pollinated but make certain afterwards that you leave 20 Honey untouched at the hives as you will need to collect 20 Honey in Peach Boy 4.  Another task requires that you collect 8 Nectar so if you have some on your Farm, delay its collection.

Another situation where you may wish to delay your own actions is when you reach the second half of the Quest sequence which will include various Island tasks.  One of these near the end is to tend flowers in the Botanic Garden 6 times.  If you leave your Garden untended from the point when you reach Peach Boy 13 or so,  you will be able to perform the task without delay when you reach Peach Boy 15.

One annoyance for me personally is the new Collectable that has been the Reward for the Collections Missions recently.  Collectables cannot be speeded and you must wait four hours to collect the Millet from the Millet Bush.  Peach Boy 6 requires that you place the Millet Bush as one of the tasks.  You can skip the task for 10 RC but in Peach Boy 7, the very next step in the sequence, you will need a total of 24 Millet to complete a Recipe task.  Each of the Millet Dumplings that you must make requires 2 Millet and you must produce a total of 12.  I find this rather exacting as the very next task after placement of the Millet Bush.  To pay RC for the ingredients, you would have to spend a total of 24 RC.  It therefore becomes a waiting game at this point unless you are willing to invest a considerable amount of RC in the task.

If you have access to the Island, you will need to transport a total of 60 Peacock Feathers as one of the tasks.  This cannot be done in advance as it is a task in itself.  You can start the transport early however as long as you remember not to collect the items!  Dividing the items between zeppelins will save time.

There are other items that need to be transported to the Island for use in other tasks.  You will need 20 Lilies to make Lily Baskets and these can be transported in advance.  You will need to transport
two of the ingredients for one of the tasks in the last part of Peach Boy from the Island to your Seaside Farm.  You will need 6 Wooden Aroma Bottles and 6 Lily Essential Oils.  The actual task occurs in the Beauty Shop.  Crafting 6 Wooden Aroma Bottles is one of the tasks in an earlier part of the Quest sequence but if you have some of these bottles in your Island Barn,  you can transport 6 of them to the Seaside Farm well in advance.  Crafting the Lily Essential Oil is NOT a task, so you can make that whenever you wish and transport that in advance as well.  Each Lily Aroma Bottle will require 1 Wooden Aroma Bottle, 1 Lily Essential Oil and 1 Distilled Water.  You can obtain Distilled Water by request from your Neighbours, so make certain that you have 6 before you reach this task.

As always, substantial amounts of Power will be needed to prepare all the Recipes required in tasks in the Quest sequence.  Making certain that you have as many of the ingredients in advance as possible will help tremendously, especially when those ingredients are themselves cooked dishes.

I always advise players to keep as many of the 'basic' cooked dishes in their barns as possible.  Among these are Cake Flour, Soft Dough, Condensed Milk and Honey Syrup, all needed in the course of the Peach Boy Quest.  Sweet Dumplings is an ingredient in two different Recipes required for this Quest.  Each Sweet Dumpling is made from 1 Soft Dough and 3 Sweet Potatoes, so make certain that you have this Crop in your Barn.

You will need a total of 4 Coral Slice to make 4 Goose Feather Earrings in the Beauty Shop.  Coral Slice is a bonus item obtained from Coral.  You can pay 1 RC for it but it is better if you have processed sufficient Coral to have 4 of these Slices.  The chance of obtaining it from any piece of Coral you process always is random.

There are two different tasks that require that you request a special item from your Neighbours.  One occurs in the first half of the Quest sequence and the other in the second, so if you do not have access to the Island yet, you only need to worry about the first request.  As I wrote earlier, I am an impatient player, so if I need to request a total of 20 items from my Neighbours, I try to make certain that I can ask 80 or 100 for it!  That way, I do not have to wait too long to move forward to the next group of tasks.  I therefore usually do not make requests the day before a time-restricted Quest is set to begin.
This strategy is rather extreme admittedly and you do have 11 days to complete the sequence.

The Origins of the Peach Boy Quest
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

'Peach Boy' or Momotaro is a very popular folktale from Okayama Province in Japan.  It follows a theme that is known throughout the world wherein a young lad is found by an old childless couple floating on the sea, river or lake and once grown,  goes off to save his people.  Typically, along the journey, he acquires useful animal companions who come to his aid at a critical moment.  The name of the hero, Momotaro literally means 'Peach Son' as Momo is the word for Peach and Taro is the word for elder son.

Momotaro was sent from heaven in a giant peach and launched upon the waters to be discovered by a childless couple.  The old woman was washing clothes when she spied the enormous peach floating upon the water.  She and her husband opened it in order to eat it and found the boy inside.

When he reaches the age of 15, he determines to save the land from some demons who inhabit an island.  It is thought that the Island where the demons lived was Megijima Island because of its many manmade caves.

In some versions of the tale, the boy resembles the heroes of many Western folktales and fairytales in that, rather than being a hardworking, diligent lad, he sleeps most of the day and is considered feckless until he goes off to meet the challenge of the Demons who plunder the land.  Similar heroes are found, for example, in such stories as the tale of the Princess on the Glass Hill where the hero is the youngest son who, while his brothers are hard at work each day,  sleeps in the ashes next to the fireplace but ultimately is the only one who can reach the top of the hill to win the Princess.

I love these old tales myself and always am happy when Family Farm Seaside decides to incorporate one into a Quest.  Curiously enough, one of the first stories I ever wrote was called 'The Apricot Pit' and followed some of the same themes but the 'hero' in my tale was a girl rather than a boy.  I wrote it when I was eight years old, bored during school sports, dying to be in a different time and place.   While idly tracing designs in the dirt with my shoe, I unearthed a dried apricot pit.  Splitting it open, I was fascinated by the almond-shaped seed at its centre.  The seed actually smelled like almonds as well and I later discovered that it is used both in sweet biscuits and liqueurs.  In any case, I began to invent a tale wherein the pit contained not a seed but a girl...
